About The Lobster Trap
Ø     New England seafood restaurant since 1974...

Ø    The Lobster Trap Restaurant has been around for 34 years.  2009 will be our 35th summer season.
In the beginning, before 23 Washington St became the Lobster Trap that we know today, it was a business of a completely different nature...a dry cleaner (the old Dryshoal Cleaner's sign still hangs on our patio bar).

Ø     It was the business that the late Ernie Whelden started and used to support his family from 1947 - 1973. When it was time for Ernie to retire, the torch passed to our father Larry Whelden (a.k.a. LBW).  Not wanting to be a drycleaner, he used the building to start an institutional food distributorship known as the Commissary.  Soon after, the idea of a restaurant came about and for a time there in the late 1970's the Lobster Trap restaurant occupied the front of the building, while the Commissary ran out of the back. The two businesses quickly grew out of the building and the Commissary was moved to another location. The Lobster Trap Restaurant started to take on the appearance that it has today.

Ø     35 years later, the torch is being passed to the next generation. Alex and Drew Whelden have spent the last five summers learning the business under the supervision of experienced restaurant manager Bobby Short. Armed with a wealth of knowledge in the restaurant industry passed down by our father, the newest Whelden generation is eager to show customers, both new and returning, their dedication to quality in all aspects of the business.

Ø      From the freshest seafood to a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, we are excited to put our fresh energy into an old classic. In the upcoming summer of 2009, we intend to continue the unpretentious casual atmosphere, the simplicity of the fresh seafood menu.  We have some new ideas, some fun promotions and different entertainment.   There will be some new faces and without a doubt some of the good times/great oldies that are loved by everyone!! We look forward to seeing you all this summer, meeting new people and expanding Lobster Trap Family.  Join us on the Lobster Trap Facebook and stay current with what is going on at the Trap.

Our House Drink is The Elbow Bender...

Discovered in the early 80s while sailing through The Abacos. A combination of fruit juices, rum, Cherry Herring, and our secret ingredient. It has bent the elbow of many a fine patron.
